  • How much does joining a fraternity/sorority cost?
    • Price varies by organization, below is a range of what to expect. Each chapter has a treasurer for students to go to if there are financial concerns to work out a payment plan
      • Sorority: New Member dues $200~$550, $100~$350 thereafter (per semester)
      • Fraternity: New Member dues $0~$450, $100~$500 thereafter (per semester) 
  • How much time will it take out of my child’s schedule?
    • Each new member season is not to exceed 15 hours a week, all new member processes are approved by the Assistant Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life to ensure this is true. These processes consist of learning about the local and national history of your child’s organization.
  • Will being a member of Greek life negatively affect my child’s GPA?
    • No, we pride ourselves on having a higher GPA than the average TCNJ student
    • Our members have a ten percent higher 6 year graduation rate than non-greek life members
      • Greek: 94.52 percent
      • Non-Greek: 84.43 percent
    • We are always reminding our members that being a student comes first, being Greek comes second

        • Fall 2015: all sorority : all women’s = 3.383 : 3.344
        • Fall 2015: all fraternity : all men’s = 3.168 : 3.125

  • What are some benefits of joining Greek Life?
    • Longer lasting perks of Greek life- so connections people make that lead to jobs or internships, networking opportunities, and how being in a Greek Organization will enrich your collegiate experience.

  • What about hazing?
    • All new members participate in a hazing prevention workshop upon signing their bid to join their fraternity/sorority
    • New Jersey State Anti-Hazing Law: A person is guilty of hazing, a disorderly person offense, if, in connection with initiation of applicants to or members of a student or fraternal organization, he knowingly or recklessly organizes, promotes, facilitates, or engages in any conduct, other than competitive athletic events, which places or may place another person in danger of bodily injury.
