Order of the Omega was founded at the University of Miami in 1959 by a group of outstanding fraternity men, who felt that individuals in the Greek community should be recognized for their service to the fraternity system and the University.
Order of Omega is the most prestigious Greek leadership honorary in the nation. Membership consists of the top 3% of Greek leaders from each campus community. It recognizes outstanding students who have attained a high standard of leadership in fraternal organization activities and encourages them to continue developing their potential and inspiring others to strive for similar excellence. Criteria for membership in Order of Omega include character, scholarship, service, and leadership in fraternal affairs at The College of New Jersey. Additionally, Order of Omega brings together members of the faculty, administration, alumni and TCNJ’s fraternities and sororities on the basis of mutual interest, understanding, and helpfulness.
The purpose of Order of Omega is:
1. To recognize those fraternity men and women who have attained a high standard of leadership in inter fraternity activities, to encourage them to continue along this line, and to inspire others to strive for similar conspicuous attainment
2. To unite outstanding fraternity men and women to create an organization which will help to mold the sentiment of the institution on questions of local and intercollegiate fraternity affairs;
3. To bring together members of the faculty, alumni, and student members of the institutions fraternities and sororities on a basis of mutual interest, understanding and helpfulness
4. To help create an atmosphere where ideas and issues an be discussed openly across Greek lines and to help work out solutions
